MLCCC's Mid-Autumn Chinese Festival
On October 15, 2011, the Main Line Chinese Culture Center hosted Philadelphia's
first Mid-Autumn Chinese Festival at the
Independence Seaport Museum
on the beautiful Delaware River waterfront, signaling the renewed importance of
Chinese-American relations in an increasingly global economy and culture.
The daylong event began at 11 a.m. with a multicultural mix of exhibits, food and
retail vendors, and free music and dance performances in the museum's auditorium.
The event culminated with an
evening concert
and post-concert reception featuring world-renowned Bright Sheng's brilliant reinventions
of Chinese folk tunes,
Curtis
Institute of Music
alum and young rising star Ya-Jhu Yang's enchanting songs Rain Out at Sea and her
new trio for pipa, erhu and cello performed by Curtis graduates. It was a unique
celebration of Eastern and Western music.
