Hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable summer! Welcome back to many old friends
and we also look forward to meeting new families! This coming Sunday, September
13, at Great Valley High School, is the first day of our Weekend School’s 2015-2016
school year!

Details:
- First Day Logistics (This
Coming Sunday September 13)
- Classroom assignments will be posted in the hallway
(i.e. which class is in which room).
- Class names will be posted on the door of the classrooms.
- For non-Chinese-language classes, the first 10 minutes of class will be a mini-conference
to hear the teacher’s plan for the year and the goals and expectations of the class.
- Textbooks Sale on First
Day Near Admin Desk
Exact cash or check payable to “MLCCC” would be highly
appreciated. Thank you in advance!
Textbooks Prices:
- No textbooks needed for Montessori Chinese PreK and K.
- Ma Liping textbooks: $50 per set (for students in CHL grades 1 to 4, and grades
6 to 8).
- JiNan University’s ZhongWen textbook: $20 per set (for students in CHL grade 5).
- CHL Kindergarten: $20 per set.
- CSL Level I: $43 per set. All other CSL classes will continue to use last year’s
textbook for at least the first few weeks.
- Volunteers Needed for Textbook
Selling First Day & Class TAs
We need adult or high school volunteers to help with
textbook selling on the first day. It will be a very busy day so any help will make
the textbook process more orderly and faster.
We also need high school volunteers to act as teacher’s assistants in Montessori
PreK, Montessori K, and CHL K classes during the school year.
If you or your high school student can help, please reply to this email. Thank you
in advance!
- New Class: 武术课 (Chinese
Martial Arts Class) at 2pm and 3pm!
We are happy to offer a Chinese Martial Arts class at
2pm and 3pm! The class will be held in the main hallway right outside the cafeteria.
If you are interested, please reply to this email so we know how many people to
anticipate. Everyone is welcome to try or observe on the first day regardless if
you registered. The teacher will be Valentino Rudi. Below is his bio.
Valentino has studied Chinese martial arts for over 20 years. He first studied Hun
Quan (Hung Gar) as a child and later became a student of Tai Chi and Wushu under
various teachers including Zhang Xichuan Shifu, Ma Yuen Shifu, Ma Chau Shifu, Chen
Peng Fe, Bai Wenxiang Shifu and more…..
Valentino is a dedicated student of Zhao Changjun Shifu (赵长军-曾任陕西省武术总队总教练), who
has promoted Valentino to Wushu Coach and calls Valentino “A young Shifu”. Under
Zhao Changjun, Valentino has studied various Wushu forms both external and internal
systems including, Shaolin Quan, Hu Quan, Gun Ze, Fan, whip chain. Guan Dao, Cha
Quan, Funzi Quan, Pi Gua, Hsing I Quan, Ba Gua, Tai Chi and more including Jian
and Ji ben gong (Foundation training).
Valentino has won a gold and bronze in Wushu competitions and has earned the title
as a wushu judge for competition and testing with the approval of Zhao Changjun
and Wu Bing (Jet Li’s Shifu)
Valentino is a graduate of theater and film from Temple University and has appeared
in several films and stage as a martial arts fighter. Valentino is also a screenplay
writer and actor.
- To Early Bird Families Who
Have Not Selected Classes
To those Early Bird families have not even chosen their
classes, (we have emailed you as well), please choose your classes online or email
your classes to us ASAP to minimize the busyness of the first day.
- New Policy: Half Tuition
for Repeating Chinese Language Classes at Weekend School
• Applies to CHL 1st grade and above and CSL Level I
and above.
• Repeated classes where tuition was halved are not eligible for counting towards
our Persistency Award.
• No other discounts apply to the repeated classes where tuition was halved.

- New Policy: Free Tuition
(Except for $30 Registration Fee) for Seniors (Age 65+) Enrolling in Weekend School’s
Classes
• Seniors (Age 65+) can take any of our Weekend School’s
currently opened classes. These classes are different from the special free classes
for seniors such as the “Learn English” class. Enrolled seniors will be in the same
class as our children or parents who have also enrolled in that class.
• The family that the senior is part of must be enrolled in at least one other class
at MLCCC Weekend School.
• Tuition is waived but $30 registration fee still applies.
• Classes start for seniors the second week of the school year, after registrations
have started to settle down.
• Some classes we recommend are Drawing, Chinese Calligraphy and Painting, Chinese
Music Instrument, Weiqi, etc.
If you would like to take advantage of this policy, please reply to this email and
state the class name and time.
- Additional Time Slots for
English Writing and MathCounts
• 4pm English Writing: so in total we have English Writing
at 2pm, 3pm and 4pm.
• 4pm Mathcounts for older students: the original 3pm will be for younger students.
For those of students who already registered and would like to switch to different
time slots, please let us know.
- Crowded Time Slots, Consider
Moving to Another Time Slot of the Same Class
The following time slots are a lot fuller than the second
time slot for these same classes. Please switch to the second time slot if your
schedule allows.
• Montessori Chinese PreK at 3pm, consider switching to 4pm
• Montessori Chinese Kindergarten at 1pm (already full), consider switching to 3pm
• CHL Chinese Kindergarten at 1pm, consider switching to 3pm
• CHL Chinese 1st grade at 1pm, consider switching to 3pm
- Update Your Contact Info
on MLCCC Website
While you are registering your kids online for the new
school year’s classes, please also update your contact info, so the school can reach
you if there are school cancellations, especially if due to unforeseeable weather
conditions.
- Summer Homework Completion
Reward With School Dollars
CHL students (grades 2-9) who have done the Ma Liping
summer HW book, will be rewarded with school dollars. Those who completed 90% or
more of the HW book will be rewarded $10 school dollars and those who completed
40%-80% will be rewarded $5 school dollars.

My name is Jenny Holzapfel and I am a second year Master's student in Counseling
and Counseling Psychology at Arizona State University working under Dr. Ashley K.
Randall. I am looking for intercultural couples (romantic couples in which partners
come from two different countries) to participate in my thesis research (IRB approval
#: STUDY00002710).
Couples will fill out a screening survey to ensure they meet requirements (5 minutes
to complete) and then an online survey about stress, coping strategies, and their
relationship (30 minutes to complete). All participants can be entered to win one
