Dear Parents,
We will hold a Parent – Admin – PTO meeting this Sunday 1:15pm in Chinese and 3:15pm in English in room 168. Every parent is welcome but in the past new parents to our school who are interested in learning more about us tended to attend. We will discuss about the upcoming school year, the classes, our financial health, PTO activities, and answer any questions. Past meetings have lasted about an hour but you don’t have to stay for the entire time.
We also have many FREE activities starting, especially for grandparents. Details are below.

Penn Medicine (www.pennmedicine.org) is one of the very best health services in the country whose many specialties are ranked Top 10 nationwide. Additionally, Penn Medicine is strongly committed to the local community in many ways, especially through the PENN MEDICINE CAREs grant programs, to improve the health and wellbeing of the Greater Philadelphia community. MLCCC's Asian Senior CAREs Center (明朗长青俱乐部）is fortunate to be one of their grant's recipients
Dr. Victor Li (Penn Union Medical Center) is a renowned doctor of the Greater Philadelphia area. He has been serving Greater Philadelphia, especially the Chinese-American community, for many years. As an enthusiastic supporter of MLCCC Weekend School, he is also the parent of our 2nd grade student Jonathan Lee.
With financial assistance from the Penn Medicine CAREs grant, and Dr. Victor Li’s support with his time, effort, and medical skills/knowledge, for the first time, we are able to offer FREE flu shots to senior/elderly members of our MLCCC community:
- For uninsured grandparents, your flu shot cost will still be covered by this program.
- For grandparents with medical insurance, you can also get the flu shot from Dr. Li for free.
Just bring your insurance card with you, the out of pocket cost for you would be still be $0.
So without making any extra trip to elsewhere, our grandparents can get their flu shots right at MLCCC Weekend School!
Since it involves vaccine ordering and transport, we need head counts on how many shots Dr. Li should bring in. Number of shots is limited. Please come to Admin Desk this week, register your name for the free flu shot next week on Oct. 9 and get peace of mind for the upcoming flu season.
Our sincere appreciation go out to Dr. Weiguo Victor Li and his staff for their time and effort! Our sincere gratitude to Penn Medicine for their support of our Asian Senior CAREs Center's programs!
- FREE English Class Starts This Sunday @4pm in Room 147
Many thanks to our school’s student Kevin Zhang, who took on the task of volunteering to teach English to our Evergreen Club grandparents without any hesitation! So grandparents, your Sunday afternoon will have more things to do now. It is a great opportunity to connect with other grandparents too! Best thing is, the class is completely FREE!
- FREE Popular Taichi Class Continues @3pm in Admin Hallway
Mrs. Shao is a patient and experienced Taichi instructor. Her first class had about 20 students already, and everyone felt the class was beneficial. This free class continues this week at 3pm. Everyone regardless of age, gender, skills are all welcome to join!
- FREE Mahjong Playing Starts This Sunday
PTO owns a set of mahjong and needs players to make full use of it. So come to join the fun in the afternoon with some mahjong playing. But please, no playing for money with any games played in our school!
Also, we have a playing cards club as well and it has been active for a long time. Anyone who likes to play ‘Sheng Ji’, ‘Zhao Peng You’, ‘Dou Di Zhu’ etc. card games, you can find pals to start a game any time during the school hour.
- PTO Sponsored 虹成 King’s Village Food Sale This Sunday
Authentic Chinese food from 虹成 King’s Village will be at our school this Sunday! Many students have no school on Monday so buy some authentic tasty Chinese food and enjoy a longer weekend of yummy-ness!
- School Store Opens This Week
We have some new toys and stationery items added to our stock besides snacks and drinks. Collect your school dollars and come to shop!
Store managers are higher grade Chinese class students. This month are: Kevin Zhang, Sarah Liang, Kevin Guo, Skyler Le.
Again, if your household has any new or gently used toys, stationery, non-expired food items that you no longer need, please donate them to our school store. They can be treasures for our school’s students!
- Chinese Schools Ping Pong Tournament at Delaware ChunHui (春晖) Chinese School
Please let the Admin know by this Friday if you are interested to play or to be in the judge team or both.
The following announcement is from the Greater Philadelphia Chinese School Union 大费城地区中文学校联合会理事会 to each Chinese school:
按照今年中文学校联合会理事会的决定，我们将在11月12日下午1点至6点举办中文学校联合会的首届校际间乒乓球比赛。地点是Delaware的春晖中文学校。时间已经很紧迫了，希望各校抓紧组队。
各项比赛的前3名颁发奖品，所有参与者有纪念奖，裁判也有纪念奖。各中文学校出资$100，共同承担费用。（明朗 will pay for our parents to participate.)
现在需要各校推荐两名裁判，组成这次乒乓球比赛的裁判组。这些裁判需要懂得乒乓球比赛的规则。请大家10月3日前把裁判名单报上来。具体比赛的项目（男、女单打，双打等），最后由裁判组决定。裁判尽量避免参赛，但如果没有其他人选，可以参赛
因为是中文学校联合会的活动，参赛的人员必须直接是各中文学校的学生或家长。这次比赛只有家长组，没有学生组。如果有学生希望参加，将与家长一起比赛。

Help us study the effects of parenting on childhood obesity! Johns Hopkins School of Medicine is conducting a research study in children 5-12 years old and their adult parents to investigate the behavioral influences that affect child weight. This study involves the one-time, 20-30 minute completion of questionnaires regarding basic demographic information, parenting behaviors, and behaviors and attitudes towards food weight of you and your child.
Upon the completion of the study, you will receive $5 in compensation as well as be entered for a chance to win a $100 gift card!
