MLCCC Newsletter (2016-01-29)
Dear Parents,
瑞雪兆丰年 (in Chinese culture, heavy snow in the winter foretells of a prosperous new year)! Hope everyone stayed warm and safe last weekend and that our kids enjoyed
their days off from school. Weekend School resumes this Sunday.
Our annual Chinese New Year Gala is only about one week away! It will be right at GVHS on Sunday February 7, 1pm-5pm. We have another great line-up of performances
and game stations this year! Some highlights include:
- 7 dances by our own dance troupes and dance classes!
- lion dance by our very own Lion Dance Team!
- Peking Opera student performance!
- Tea Exhibit during the Culture Fair!
Invite all of your friends/acquaintances!
Attached is a flyer. Our Gala is free admissions and everyone is welcome!
More details on the schedule of Gala day will be shared in the next email.
With over 1,000 people attending our Gala each year, we need lots of help: supervising culture fair tables, donating snacks, taking pictures, etc. Details are
below. We will have a sign-up sheet at the Admin Desk.

- Chinese New Year Gala Call for Food Donation and Volunteers
Our Gala on February 7 is by far the biggest event of MLCCC. A big event needs lots of hands to make it a success, and lots of food
to make it complete.
We need adults and older children (high school or middle school students) to help with the Show (1pm-3pm in auditorium) and the Culture Fair (3pm-5pm in cafeteria),
whether it is supervising a table, opening the stage curtains, selling merchandise, etc. Additionally, our Culture Fair is so popular that many young kids start
trying to play the stations at around 2:15pm. So if there is anyone who can supervise stations starting at 2:15pm, that would be extremely helpful. The tasks
are very simple. Even 1 hour of assistance from 2:15-3:15 is extremely helpful.
No celebration is complete without food and drink. Please donate food/drink to our PTO. The Gala is also one of our PTO’s biggest fundraisers. Food can be bought
from stores or homemade, and can be sweet or salty, hot or cold!
Sign-up sheet will be at the Admin Desk. Thank you so much in advance!
- 24 Game Semi-Finals and Final This Sunday
Good luck to the top performers from last time. (They have been sent a more detailed reminder.)
- Looking for Parents to Join Choir to Perform for Gala - Practice at 2:15pm This Sunday
For those parents who like to sing, we are organizing a parents’ choir to perform《我的中国心》and《难忘今宵》as a closing song at our Chinese New
Year Gala. If you would like to join us, please come to the Admin Desk this Sunday at 2:15pm. Our CHL 3rd grade teacher Li, Wen will instruct and coordinate.
No chorus skills are needed, just bring your enthusiasm and passion!
