rewarded $2 school dollars at Weekend School.

- Easter Egg Hunt This Sunday at 1:45pm and 2:45pm and Volunteers Needed
If weather permits, we will do our Easter Egg Hunt in the outdoor courtyard next to the Admin Hallway. If not, we will do it in the
Admin Hallway. The 1pm-3pm Chinese class students will participate in the 1:45pm hunt. The 3pm-5pm Chinese class students will participate in the 2:45pm hunt.
If you come to MLCCC for non-Chinese classes, please join in the 1:45pm hunt if your first class is 1pm-3pm, otherwise join in the 2:45pm one. Please participate
in only one of the hunts. Don't forget to have your kid(s) bring in their baskets. Wearing Easter costume is also a big welcome!
Plastic Eggs, Small Goodies, Volunteers to Stuff Eggs Needed:
The more eggs, the merrier the event will be. If you have any unwanted plastic eggs or small goodies that can be stuffed into the eggs, please consider donating
to our PTO, and give your name for future recognition.
All the empty eggs need to be stuffed in 45 minutes for kids to have fun. So we desperately need people to help stuff them. If you are available 1pm-2:45pm
to help, please lend a hand!
- Possible Additional Chinese Language Track at MLCCC -《美洲华语》
MLCCC Chinese Weekend School currently has two Chinese language tracks, Chinese as a Heritage Language (CHL) and Chinese as a Second
Language (CSL). The CHL track is for students who has Chinese speaking environment at home and are fairly fluent in speaking Chinese. We use《马立平》textbook for
this track. Below are some feedbacks on this track from some families. (Note that there are also other families that like the《马立平》textbooks.)
1) Too much content each week: each week, students have to learn many new words and new text; students cannot remember all the words and text in class. So they
have to re-study at home. Also, because the teachers have to finish everything in 2 hours, they are pressed to push the content to the students and do not have
time to really teach in a fun and interesting way.
2) Too much homework: each day students have to spend at least 30 minutes or more to work on their homework.
3) The homework requires a lot of time from parents, especially the first 3-5 years. It is very challenging for parents who are very busy.
4) Some of the students cannot keep up with the textbook, so they stop to learn Chinese altogether after a couple of years.
To solve these problems, we are looking at the《美洲华语》textbook as an additional track.
We are trying to see if there is any interest in opening《美洲华语》track at our school. This track is for students who have Chinese speaking environment at home and
fairly able to speak Chinese but feel《马立平》 textbook is too demanding for them. We will start to bring the《美洲华语》textbooks to school starting this week. If you
are interested, please come to the Admin’s Desk to take a look. You are welcome to borrow the textbooks too, as long as you return them the following week.
If you are interested in registering your child for《美洲华语》next school year, please answer a short survey using the link:
http://goo.gl/forms/9GtmJAzB8T.
This will help us to plan the《美洲华语》track, especially which grades to open, and at what time.
