The 8th annual MLCCC Chinese Character Recognition Contest will be held this Sunday for CHL 1st to 3rd grades. Contest for CHL 4th
grade and above, and all CSL Levels will be held the following Sunday 3/13.
Contest is open to all of our students in CHL and CSL grade 1 and above.
For students who wish to participate in this contest, please register online at
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/.../viewform?usp=send_form.
It is a good opportunity and makes for a good reason for the students to review the textbook vocabulary s/he has already learned. A reward will be presented to
top performers at the End of School Year assembly in May. Each participant will receive $2 school dollars.
This year, we reduced the amount of words that students need to review and compete. We hope that this change can make the competition less overwhelming to most
students.
For CHL classes Grade 1, students are given 100 words(all from 1st grade textbook) to study. They will be tested all 100 words;
For CHL classes Grade 2, students are given 250 words(100 words from 1st grade textbook and 150 from 2nd grade textbook) to study. They will be test 50 from 1st
grade, and 100 from 2nd grade;
For CHL classes Grade 3 to 8, students are given 300 words(150 words from their own grade and 150 words from their previous grade) to study. They will be tested
150 words, 100 of them from their own grade level, 50 each from their previous grade level;
For CHL classes Grade 9 to 10, students are given 300 words(All of them are from their own grade) to study. they will be tested 150 words.
The CHL review list is at this link:
http://www.mlccc.org/Documents/Programs/School/Contest/Recognition/ContestWordsCHL.pdf
Students will compete individually, they must read out the words instantly and accurately. Students who are able to correctly read 95% and above will be the winners.
For CSL classes, each participant will be randomly given 100 words from the review list. (The level I students will be tested 73 words.) Participants must read
out the words in Chinese and translate into English instantly and accurately. Students who are able to correctly read and translate 85% and above will be the winners.
Please let us know if you want the review list for CSL.
Vocabulary lists for both CHL Chinese classes and CSL Chinese classes are on Quizlet. Vocabulary list for CHL is also on our web at
