- GPCSU New Year Celebration (元旦联欢会) This Saturday (1/7/2017) at GVHS!
Every year, about 6 Chinese schools of the Greater Philadelphia Chinese School Union (GPCSU) get together to celebrate the western New Year in early January. This year, the celebration of singing and dancing will be right here in the GVHS auditorium!
Date: Saturday January 7, 7pm-9:30pm
Location: Auditorium at GVHS
Both our Adult and Intermediate Children’s Dance Troupes will attend and present beautiful dance performances at this event! They have been practicing very hard! Everyone is welcomed to come and enjoy an evening of singing and dancing. Best of luck to our dance troupe members and thank you to our dance teacher Ma Weiwei Laoshi!!

Registration starts now by email or WeChat with your child’s name, gender and regular school’s grade (not our school’s grade).
Our enthusiastic students Sophia Pan and 5-time 24 Game champion Kenny Yang (out of only 6 years of 24 Games at MLCCC) will co-organize this event and be the chief judges this year.
Below is the announcement from our young chief judges.
Our 24 Game is back again by popular demand!
If your child knows basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and subtraction), then this game is for them! 24 game sharpens participants' math skills, and speeds up their mental calculations.
Games will be on January 15 and January 22 during recess time. Register your children in one of three ways to participate:
- at the Admin Desk
- by responding to this newsletter
- through the MLCCC WeChat group.
We need your children’s names and their regular school grades to pair up the players.
Rules:
-If there is a grade gap between the two players, the younger student starts the game with the number of points equal to the grade gap.
-Whoever reaches 8 points first wins the game, unless the grade gap is greater than or equal to 3. Then, whoever reaches 10 points first wins the game.
-If you motion to answer but do not give the correct answer within the allotted time, your opponent receives the point.
Participants who pre-register receive $2 school dollars regardless of winning or losing. Participants who join on the spot receive $1 school dollar.
The awards are:
Grand Champion: $50 school dollars
Runner-Up: $30 school dollars
Champion of Each Grade: $10 school dollars
24 Game volunteer judges are also needed to run the game. Come, judge, and be the first one to be amazed at how fast our young mathletes can be at solving the problems! Please sign up at Admin Desk.

- MLCCC Chinese New Year Gala:
Our 2017 Chinese New Year Gala is on Sunday afternoon January 29, right at GVHS. This is a free admissions event for all people of the Greater Philadelphia area who would like to experience and celebrate this wonderful Chinese holiday with us. The Gala includes two parts: New Year’s Show (1pm-3pm) in auditorium and Culture Fair (3pm-5pm) in cafeteria.
Call for Food Donation and Volunteers
Our Gala is by far the biggest event of MLCCC! A big event needs lots of hands to make it a success, and lots of food to make it complete.
We need adults and older children (high school or middle school students) to help with the Show (1pm-3pm in auditorium) and the Culture Fair (3pm-5pm in cafeteria), whether it is supervising a table, opening the stage curtains, selling merchandise, etc. Additionally, our Culture Fair is so popular that many young kids start trying to play the stations at around 2:15pm. So if there is anyone who can supervise stations starting at 2:15pm, that would be extremely helpful. The tasks are very simple. Even 1 hour of assistance from 2:15-3:15 is extremely helpful.
No celebration is complete without food and drink. Please donate food/drink to our PTO. The Gala is also one of our PTO’s biggest fundraisers. Food can be bought from stores or homemade, and can be sweet or salty, hot or cold!

留不住匆匆时光，割不断浓浓乡情。继成功举办首次费城地区中国新春音乐会后，亚都华人协会2017年又一次携手大费城华人文化中心 (GPCCC) 将于2月4日在Upper Dublin High School Performing Arts Center 组织一场大型的“欢乐春节”音乐舞蹈晚会，和大费城地区广大华人及社区共庆中国农历新年。

这次演出单位是经过文化部精心挑选的中国人民大学附中艺术团(RDFZ)。该艺术团由交响乐团、合唱团、舞蹈团、男子舞蹈团、武术队、健美操队以及行进乐团、电子轻音乐团等八个艺术团体组成，现有成员500多人。自2004年开始，RDFZ曾多次受中国文化部、国家汉办等委派，参加“中法文化”、“中俄文化年”、“欢乐春节”品牌及“孔子学院”交流演出活动。近年来曾先后多次赴美国、法国、奥地利、俄罗斯、英国、希腊、澳大利亚、西班牙、德国、捷克等多个国家进行访问演出，均受到热烈欢迎，得到高度评价，为促进国际交流与理解做出了贡献。参加2017年赴美交流演出的包括人大附中交响乐团、男子舞蹈团、武术队、健美操队、电子轻音乐团以及人大附中翠微学校舞蹈团的部分成员共85人。相信他们将给我们带来一场美妙的艺术享受。这也是人大附中艺术团近年来连续第十一次赴美交流演出。

The troupe consists of many types of artists, including musicians, singers, dancers, martial artists, and more. They have performed all over the world. This is the 11th time they have performed in the U.S. but the first time in Greater Philadelphia.
