2/24/2017 - MLCCC Summer Camps, MLCCC Summer SAT Prep, Exercise Club, and Photography Workshop
Dear Parents,
Hope everyone is enjoying the warm weather!
We want to remind everyone that students should not be running in the hallway during class breaks. The safety of our children is the most important and we need the collective efforts from everyone to ensure that our students have a good and safe environment to learn. Please help us stop the runnings when you see it.

English Writing, Math, Fencing Camp details:
- 2-week camp from 8/7 - 8/18, 3 hours of learning each half day for up to 6 hours per day
English Writing - rising 3rd-4th graders in morning, rising 5th-6th graders in afternoon:
We will work on: vocabulary building, grammar, reading analysis, writing analysis, essay types such as narration, description and persuasion, and creative writing. Each student will "graduate" with a portfolio of five to ten written pieces, in addition to various class work assignments.
Math - rising 3rd-4th graders in afternoon, rising 5th-6th graders in morning:
The classes will be geared towards the math aptitude of the group so that each class will have a tailored program with topics that are age appropriate. Both classes will build problem-solving skills and strategies to solve real-world problems. Examples of possible topics are - arithmetic, graphs, fractions, geometry for younger class; negative numbers, decimals, ratios, rates, percents, basic algebra, basic statistics for the older class. Brainteasers, games, and competitions will also add to the fun and creativity of the class.
Fencing - for ages 7-14; beginners in morning, intermediates in afternoon; intermediate = passed foil test; equipment provided by camp:
The class emphasizes having fun while practicing discipline, acquiring strength and improving gross motor skills. This program uses a variety of games that promote strength, coordination, and tactical understanding. Beginner class covers foot technique, proper use and handling of the foil (foil is one type of sword), and includes mock bouts. Intermediate class hones the techniques and skills further, into competitive style fencing and allows the fencer to test his/her limits.
Classrooms are inside Wayne Camp so students can choose to take a combination of any two (or just one) of the 4 subjects: Chinese, Writing, Math, Fencing. The Combo registration form is attached and at link below http://www.mlccc.org/Documents/Programs/Camp/Registration/RegFormWayneCombo.pdf

- MLCCC’s Summer SAT Prep at Wayne Camp
Our Weekend School SAT Prep teacher will also be teaching SAT Prep during the summer at our Wayne Camp. Details will follow next week. Below is a summary of the summer SAT program from our teacher.
Fact vs. Fiction: When it comes to SAT Prep, there is a widely-held perception that established SAT prep programs have a “secret recipe” that helps you prepare for this important standardized test. This is just marketing. There is no substitute for material that is directly from the College Board, the organization that produces and runs the SAT testing. As a testament to this belief, my own progeny will not be taking any of these test prep factories, and instead is only taking MLCCC SAT Prep.
Who Should Take This Course: The purpose of this course is to help students pinpoint and focus on their own areas of development. To help guide students so that they can minimize prep time, ensure completeness of testing strategies that work for them, and to develop areas that are unfamiliar to them. As in the SAT Prep during the current school year, the emphasis remains on metacognition in order to eliminate mistakes. Class sizes will be limited to be more impactful.
Results Oriented: During the school year, our SAT Prep students have taken two diagnostic tests [1600 is the highest score]. After about 17 hours of class time, a few students increased their score by over 100 points. The class average score after the 2nd test was over 1300 points, well above the national average, and further highlighting how impressive the improvement in score truly is as it gets much harder to improve as the scores get higher (it approaches asymptotically to 1600).
