2.  Speech Contest Top Performers Advance to Round 2 at Weekend School

Thank you to everyone who competed!  All participants will be awarded.

Also, thank you so much to the 5 judges (3 teachers, 1 admin, 1 PTO member)!

CHL G1-3 Group: Ada Li, Lily Tang, and Joshua Anthony are the top performers who will advance to Round 2.

CHL G4-6 Group: Annie Le’s and Juliet Anthony’s scores differed by only 1 point (out of 100 points) and so it is essentially a tie, and therefore will both advance to Round 2.

CHL G7+ Group: 高子越 was the only contestant in this group and therefore is the “winner” of this group.

CSL Levels 4-5 Group: Grace Carroll was the only contestant in this group and therefore is the “winner” of this group.

Round 2 will be held at Weekend School in front of judges, date TBD.

4.  Gala Details

GVSD closing GVHS last Sunday was a surprise.  We hope everyone made the best of it and enjoyed some family time or rest during the Chinese New Year weekend!  Thank you for your understanding!

Good things take time! It is a Spring Festival afterall, as the Temperature is in the high 50s.

We will try "take 2" on our Gala this Sunday, February 25, 1pm-5pm, at GVHS!

Call for Food Donation and Volunteering:

Many thanks to those who have already signed up for volunteering or donating!  We still need more hands and more food/snacks!  Please help so that we can run our show and fair smoothly, and our little ones have plenty of varieties to choose from with their red envelope school dollars.

The donated food/snack can be either homemade or storebought, can be salty or sweet, ideally in individual snack size/pack. Please label your food donation with your name, for future recognition purposes, and remember to take back your leftovers and containers at the end of the gala.

For volunteers, we need people who can supervise our Culture Fair’s craft and game tables in the cafeteria. Please respond to this email or through WeChat and let us know if you can help.

Admin and PTO Arriving at GVHS:

9am, to set up and decorate.  If anyone can help out (you do not have to arrive as early as 9am), that would be greatly appreciated!

Only Auditorium and Cafeteria will be Open - no in-class learning this Sunday:

We will not have access to classrooms nor the gym.

Parents Arriving at GVHS:

Regardless of your usual class time, if you are performing on stage, follow your teacher's directions on when to arrive at GVHS. For example, even if you normally come to GVHS for a 3pm class, your teacher will ask you to arrive earlier if you are performing.

NEW ADDED PROCEDURE - Sign In at Main Entrance:

In conjunction with the Great Valley School District, who would like to know how many of our Gala attendees are from GVSD, we are asking all attendees to do a very quick and simple sign-in when entering GVHS, with Last name, whether in GVSD or not, and # of people attending. Thank you in advance.

Where to Sit in the Auditorium:

The children (and their parents) of the same act/class should sit together, to make gathering students to go onto stage faster.  We will mark the seats.  Children are their parents’ responsibility.  Our teachers’ responsibility is to bring the class onto the stage and supervise their performance.  Each act will line up to go onstage 3 acts before its own performance.

Dropping off Food Donation:

The food drop off tables will be right outside the cafeteria, very visible. If you are bringing food to the Gala, please:

- bring in any necessary serving utensils;

- mark your food with your name for future recognition;

- take back your containers and any unsold leftovers at the end of the day.

-sign the donation sheet.

All proceeds go to support PTO sponsored schoolwide/community activities.

Thank you for your donation and your support to MLCCC PTO!!

Safety and Security:

Parents, please keep track of your children. Because this is a free, open-to-all event, we are expecting lots of people and have hired a police officer to patrol the grounds. Hence there will be a police car near the main entrance. This hiring is purely a precaution. We have never had a safety/security issue at our Gala before nor do we have any reason to expect an incident. We're just being safety-conscious. In addition to the officer, we will also have parents patrolling the grounds as well. Please help us with safety by being vigilant and alert all the time. If you notice anything unusual, please let either the officer or Admin know immediately.

Start Time:  We are aiming to start on time at 1pm. Please be seated by then.

Performance Order:  Please see attached.

Culture Fair Stations:  Please see attached.

Ascending the Stage:

About 3 acts before your child's act, please follow your teacher's instruction to line up for going onto the stage. To avoid disturbing the ongoing performance, please leave the auditorium from the back door. Stage entrance is outside the auditorium room on the right hand side if you're facing the stage.

Supervising Game Stations:

Each game station will be clearly marked as to which station it is. Thank you for your help!

Our Generous Gala and Culture Fair Sponsors:

Thank you to the following generous sponsors for helping to make this year’s MLCCC Community Gala and Culture Fair possible. They all share our passion and missions in serving the local community, please take time to visit our sponsor’s tables in the Hallways and take full advantage of the special business and services offers to the MLCCC families where available.
